STAFF REPORT

U.S. Assets Group has broken ground on Orchid Beach Club on South Lido Key, where the Half Moon Beach Club once stood.

The resort-style condominium will have two 11-story buildings and 54 residences with views of the Gulf and bay. Seventeen units are still available. Developers Thomas Brown and Jay Tallman, principals of U.S. Assets Group, recently completed Beau Ciel on the mainland bayfront next to Hyatt Sarasota. Curts Gaines Hall Jones is architect for Orchid Beach Club, which offers floor plans of 2,936 to 4,229 square feet and penthouses up to 6,253 square feet. Private elevators will open directly into each residence. Other features are summer kitchens on terraces, telecommunications wiring, morning bars in master suites, whirlpool tubs and marble showers. Two beachfront residences will have private swimming pools.

Boran Craig Barber Engel Construction Co. will build the condominiums, with completion in 2005.

The gated property will have a pool with cascading waterfall, poolside cabanas, a private entertaining pavilion, interior courtyard of tropical flowers and foliage. The club level will include concierge desk, lounge with wet bar and fireplace, private dining salon with caterer's kitchen, a billiards room, library and two guest suites.

The residents' spa will have a fitness center, juice bar, locker rooms with steam and sauna as well as a massage and treatment suite.

Units are still available from the low $1 millions to $4.5 million. For information, visit the sales center at 500 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota; call (941) 388-2050; or visit www.orchidbeachclub.com.
